Project: Vibration Monitoring and Analysis of Process Plant in an On-Shore Gas Terminal.
During high gas flow rate conditions it was observed that an extensive area of pipework and steelwork around pressure control valves began to vibrate. IDEAS was asked to investigate this problem, review the proposed modifications and identify whether the problem was likely to recur.
Using advanced Vibration Analysis techniques it was concluded that the observed vibration was caused by unsteady flow conditions in the pipework, inducing excitations close to the natural frequencies of the combined structure and pipework. Recommendations were made, and a Dynamic Pipe Stress Analysis verified the solution. A detailed Non-linear Finite Element Elastic/Plastic Analysis was performed on the main lateral branch connections to verify their integrity. IDEAS demonstrated a complete understanding of the problem and successfully resolved it using our practical engineering experience and high technology CAE.
