In the world of Process Plants, probably the biggest waste of money resulting in very misleading results and classification, is the misuse of Vibration Measurements on Piping and Small Bore Branches (SBB).

Vibration Measurements do not quantify integrity. Allowable Velocities have no basis and the use of the EIC/MTD guidelines are being widely misused

"Guidance for the avoidance of Vibration" – If you have Vibration, you have not avoided it and these guidelines have less use!

If your plant is using any of these techniques and you have been told that the piping or SBB is acceptable because it has been checked to the EIC/MTD guidelines or its Vibration Velocity is acceptable, then you may be being mislead and your plant could be in real danger.
